Kinsey Gomez is an elite runner based in Idaho, USA.

Kinsey competes in both road and rack running events and has completed the 10,000m in 32:34, just 19 seconds off the World A standard. Her goal is to compete at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in March 2018 – in which, thanks to dual citizenship, she’ll be representing both Canada and the US!

How did you get involved in elite running?

After graduating college as an All American, I was lucky enough to immediately enter the world of post-collegiate, elite running. Now, I am super fortunate to be sponsored by Skechers Performance and to get to compete with the most talented runners around the world!

Do you have an athlete role model who inspired you?

I look up to so many athletes! Shalane Flanagan is a huge role model of mine because I love her training and fuelling philosophy. Another runner that I admire is Meb. He has been a constant in the running world for almost thirty years, and I am so impressed by his longevity and love of the sport.

What advice would you give to someone considering taking up elite running?

My advice would be that shortcuts do not last in the long term of an elite running career. Put the work in, fuel your body, and train consistently to see lasting results. The harder you work for something, the more valuable the end result is.

Track running and road running – which do you prefer and why?

This is a tough question. I love both so much!!  With road racing, you get to experience different cities and see different scenery which seems to make the miles go by faster. On the other hand, track takes so much grit and tenacity because you don’t have anything to distract you from the race. I think I will say I like road racing best when I am racing a half marathon, and I like track racing best when I am running a 10,000m race.

What’s your best elite running achievement so far?

Running 32:34 in the 10,000m at the Portland Track Festival last June, which is 19 seconds off the world A standard.

What are your aspirations in elite running for 2018 and beyond?

My goal for 2018 is to make the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in March!

What are your top three  nutrition tips?

1. Eat real, whole foods and avoid processed junk.
2. Listen to your body’s hunger or fullness instead of counting calories.
3. Make everything at home when you can because homemade is almost always the healthier option.

What are your top three training tips?

1. Find teammates to help motivate you.
2. Trust the process and believe in yourself.
3.  Keep a training log to track how you feel and to log workouts you crushed.

Can you give us an insight into your pre-race morning routine?

My pre-race routine involves lots of coffee, some oatmeal as my go-to pre-race meal, and then a Beet It Sport shot and Run Gum package just before the race!

How did you hear about Beet It Sport?

I saw it at my local Natural Grocers and had to try it!
